Behind a balanced scoring attack, host Eastern Nazarene led wire-to-wire in knocking off Dean College, 70-59, in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's basketball action on Tuesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Lions broke open a relatively close game at halftime by outscoring the Bulldogs, 24-12, in the game-sealing third quarter. In that period, Eastern Nazarene, held Dean to just 5-for-18 shooting from the field and without a point for more than five minutes as they ran off 14 straight points.
When the dust settle from that stretch, the Lions were in front, 57-36, heading into the fourth period.
Eastern Nazarene saw their lead reach as many as 26 midway through the fourth quarter before Dean closed the game on a 19-4 run over the final four minutes.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
The Lions controlled the interior, outrebounding Dean, 56-41, including 23 offensive rebounds which led to 19 second chance points and a 38-26 edge in points in the paint.
Makayla Rudder (Springfield, Mass.) finished with a double-double for the Bulldogs, totaling 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Sitaara Muhammad (Brockton, Mass.) had her best game thus far, ending with 14 points, seven rebounds and five steals.
Nicole Romero (Winchendon, Mass.) added 11 points and four rebounds.
Dean steps out of conference play to square off with Johnson & Wales on Thursday evening in Providence. Tipoff is slated for 7:00 PM.
