THE LEAD:
Powered by a stellar performance from Maire Brown (Huntington, N.Y.), Dean College opened up the 2019 season with a thrilling 3-1 win over Albertus Magnus on Friday afternoon in non-league field hockey action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Brown got the Bulldogs on the board in the 22nd minute when she rattled the back of the cage with an unassisted tally.

She quickly doubled the Dean advantage a little more than five minutes later when Kat Conforti (Warwick, R.I.) fed her for her second tally of the afternoon.

The Falcons sliced the Dean lead in half early in the second stanza when Joselyn Streeto connected with Ariana Martin to make the score 2-1.

Any thoughts of a comeback were quickly dashed when Brown set up Alba Tourigny (Franklin, Mass.) for her first collegiate strike at 43:55.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
The Bulldogs had a 19-7 edge in shots and a 12-4 advantage in penalty corners. Alexis Masse (Woonsocket, R.I.) only needed to make two saves to collect her first victory – and the first coaching win for new Bulldog head coach Jess Paulin.

UP NEXT:
Dean is off until Wednesday when they travel to Framingham State for a 7:00 PM start.
