Powered by a pair of dominant pitching performances, Dean College swept a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) baseball doubleheader from Elms College on Saturday afternoon.

Game 1: Dean College 11, Elms College 0
Jason Bottone
(West Haven, Conn.) was stellar on the mound, tossing a complete game, two-hitter and the Dean offense erupted for 11 runs in the first game against Elms.

In addition to allowing just two hits, Bottone struck out nine batters – including getting the final five outs via the strikeout.

Bottone got all of the run support he would need in the third when Brian Hadden (Newburyport, Mass.) blasted a three-run homerun to left field that broke a scoreless tie.

Two more runs came home when Daniel Anderson (Boston, Mass.) delivered an RBI single to left and Elms committed a fielding error that made the game, 5-0. The Bulldogs then added a pair of runs when Joshua Cerretani (Peabody, Mass.) smacked a two-run single to center capping a four-run fourth inning.

The Dean offense continued to score runs in the sixth when Jeff Sharnick (Stratford, Conn.) singled home Cerretani and then Rolando Marcano (Bridgeport, Conn.) pushed two more runs across on a double to right center, making the score 10-0.

Cerretani added another run when he singled to left chasing home Landon Fish (New Port Richey, Fla.) in the top of the seventh.

Bottone, meanwhile, was never truly in trouble at all in this contest, only allowing one runner to reach second base while only throwing 91 pitches in what was the most dominant performance of his career.

Andrew Dirito (Plymouth, Mass.) had three hits for Dean, while both Cerretani and Fish had two each.

Game 2 Score: Dean College 10, Elms College 2
Gaten Davis
(Anchorage, Alaska) scattered seven hits and allowed just two runs in a complete game effort to lead Dean to a series sweep of Elms with a 10-2 win in the doubleheader nightcap.

The Blazers actually took a 1-0 lead in the third when Alex Hoss sent a ball through the left side that allowed Josh Keaton to score from second base.

Things stayed that way until the fifth when leadoff hitter Travis Dinsdale (Worcester, Mass.) blasted a three-run homerun to left, putting the Bulldogs in front for good. Dean scored three more runs in the fifth when Fish cleared the bases with a double to deep left field.

A four run sixth inning for the Bulldogs featured RBI singles from Sharnick, Dirito and Anderson.

Davis, meanwhile, struck out eight batters and didn't yield a walk as he retired 12 of the final 14 batters he faced.

Dirito had three more hits in the second game, while Anderson, Cerretani and Sharnick all had two hits each.

Dean is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Trinity for a 4:00 PM first pitch.
