Six different Amherst College pitched combined on a three-hit shutout and the visiting Mammoths banged out 15 hits en route to a 9-0 win over Dean College in non-league baseball action on Tuesday afternoon.

Almost half (7) of Amherst's hits were for extra-bases as they won for the third time in their last four games.

The game was scoreless until the top of the third inning when Max Steinhorn found himself on second after a single and a passed ball. Nick Nardone drove him home with a two-out double to left.

Amherst was at it again with two outs, this time in the fourth when William Murphy scampered home on a passed ball and then Steinhorn smacked an RBI single.

Amazingly, the Mammoths scored two more runs in the fifth with two outs to extend their lead to 5-0. An RBI double from Rob Casey chased Bulldog starting hurler Colton Fitzsimmons (Fairhaven, Mass.) after 4.2 innings of work. Reliever Gio Filippone (Darien, Conn.) was greeted with Severino Simeone double that scored Casey.

Simeone drove in another run in the seventh with a single to left and then Ariel Kenney delivered a two-run blast to left off in the eighth. Amherst's final run came later in the inning when Stephen Burke sent a sacrifice fly to center.

Five different Mammoths had multi-hit performances, led by Simeone, who went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI.

On the mound, Zach Brown was extremely effective for Amherst, allowing just one hit in three innings of work on just 45 pitches.

Ben Chajet (Hillsboro Beach, Fla.) had two of Dean's three hits on the afternoon while Landon Fish (New Port Richey, Fla.) had the other.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday when they host Curry College at 3:30 PM.
