The Dean College Bulldogs fell in straight sets on Tuesday night, bowing to the Albertus Magnus Falcons in non-league action in New Haven, Conn.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Dean fell behind early in the opening frame, trailing 13-4 before a timeout from head coach Joe Hanrahan helped quell the Falcon's momentum. The Bulldogs cut into the lead, closing to 15-8 and later 20-13, but could get no closer. Albertus Magnus held on down the stretch to take the first set 25-17.
The two squads traded points in the early going of set two, as Dean closed the gap to 7-6 on a kill from Miranda Marquez (San Pedro, Calif.). The hosts responded with six straight points to take a 13-6 lead. Dean scored the next two, punctuated by a kill from Kait Anderson (Clinton, Conn.) that narrowed the advantage to five (13-8) but the Falcons ripped off another deadly run, scoring seven straight points en route to a 25-10 set win.
Dean led for the outset of the final set, opening up leads at 9-6, 11-8, and 15-14, but the Falcons overtook the Bulldogs midway through the set and never looked back. Six straight Albertus Magnus points turned a 15-14 deficit into a 20-15 advantage and gave the home squad enough momentum to finish off the match 25-18.
