THE LEAD:
Visiting Dean College made quick work of Pine Manor College in a pair of non-league women's volleyball matches, rolling past the Gators 3-0 in each on Tuesday evening.

The two victories push the Bulldogs' record closer to .500 at 5-6 in advance of their New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) opener on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED IN MATCH 1:
Dean hit a season-best .304 in efficiently dispatching Pine Manor in three sets. The Bulldogs used an incredible service game, delivering a school-record 24 aces in the win led by nine from Nicole Defosses (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and seven more from Melanie Rios Nevarez (Alta Vega, Puerto Rico).

Offensively, Kait Anderson (Clinton, Conn.) and Rios-Nevarez did most of the heavy lifting combining for 21 kills, while Defosses handed out 26 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED IN MATCH 2:
In another quick triumph, Dean opened the match up on fire, hammering down ten kills with just one error in a 25-9 first set victory.

Overall, a more balanced attack led the way, with Tori Maynard (Millville, Mass.) totaling a team-best eight kills, Rios-Nevarez adding seven and Miranda Marquez (San Pedro, Calif.) contributing five of her own.

Defosses again had a stellar match, handing out 20 more assists to go along with six service aces and four kills.

Samantha Trullo (Chelmsford, Mass.), meanwhile, stuffed the stat sheet with four kills, five service aces and ten digs.

UP NEXT:
Dean returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Southern Vermont to open up NECC action with the Mountaineers. First serve is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
