Dean College stormed back from a 1-0 halftime deficit, scoring three goals in the second half to overtake non-league foe Anna Maria 3-2 at Longley Field on Saturday morning.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
After 37 minutes of scoreless action, the AmCats broke through with the first goal of the game off the foot of Sydney Owen. Owen took a pass from Julianna Acosta and lofted a lob over the head of Bulldog senior goalkeeper Macy Parisee (East Freetown, Mass.) into the back of the net. The score held through the rest of the first half.
The Bulldogs opened the second half with a vengence, scoring one minute into the second frame when freshman Jasmine Sztyler-Magee (Burlington, Conn.) scored her first goal of the season (unasissted).
Six minutes later, junior forward Mackenzie Parisee (East Freetown, Mass.) corraled a cross from junior Alison Nelson (Candia, N.H.) and pitched a shot to the far post, beating the keeper and crossing the goalline before an AmCat defender deflected it out.
In the sixtieth minute, Sztyler-Magee struck again, this time taking a through pass from Allison Buckley (Guilford, Vt.) and patiently finishing on the near post to give Dean a 3-1 advantage.
In the waning minutes, Anna Maria was able to cut the deficit to striking distance, scoring on a header from Sidney Eskildsen. The AmCats could get no closer, however, as Dean withstood the late onslaught and held on for the 3-2 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
An evenly matched contest, Anna Maria led 20-16 in shots while the Bulldogs held an 8-4 advantage in saves. The AmCats had five corner kicks to the Bulldogs three.
The win for Dean is their second in a row after an 0-5 start.
Dean is off until next Saturday when they host Lesley University at 2:00 p.m. as a part of Dean College Homecoming.
