THE LEAD:
Fitchburg State freshman Elizabeth Read (Lowell, Mass.) found the back of the net on two occasions and the visiting Falcons opened the season with a 2-0 win over host Dean College in the opening game of the 2019 Bulldog Bash.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Read broke a scoreless tie with exactly two minutes left in the opening stanza when she took an excellent cross box feed feed from Mollie Burke (Athol, Mass.).

Minutes into the second half, FSU doubled their advantage when Brittny Peralta (Leominster, Mass.) sent a wonderful through ball that Read was able to track down and slip past a charging Macy Parisee (East Freetown, Mass.).

The Bulldogs' best scoring chances came in the 75th minute when Alison Nelson (Candia, N.H.) sent her shot high, then Miranda Seacord (Cambridge, N.Y.) had her shot turned aside by Dania Politi (Springfield, Mass.) and then Allison Buckley (Guilford, Vt.) had her shot blocked inside the box.

Dean did have another great opportunity a few minutes later, but Vanessa Cote (Warren, R.I.) saw her bending shot from left to right gobbled up by Politi.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
The Bulldogs had a 23-11 edge in shots and a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

UP NEXT:
Both teams are back in action on Saturday with the Bulldogs hosting Rhode Island College at noon while the Falcons face Colby-Sawyer at 2:30.
