The Dean College Bulldogs exploded in the second half, outscoring Bay Path 44-5 on their home floor to roll to a 83-24 victory in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play on Thursday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Dean jumped out early, taking a ten point lead after the first five minutes. The early run was capped by layups from Makayla Rudder (Springfield, Mass.) and Jamaya Cleveland (Greensboro, Ga.) The Bulldog lead balooned to 22-8 late in the first quarter before Bay Path scored five straight points to cut the advantage to nine (22-13) at the end of the quarter.
Two and a half minutes of scoreless play opened the second frame before Iindia Pina (Carver, Mass.) broke the drought with a free throw. The Wildcats narrowed the lead to eight points on two seperate occasions before Dean took off, scoring 12 straight points to end the half with a 20 point lead.
Dean dominated the second half, stifling the Bay Path offense and holding them to five points in the half. The Bulldogs used a balanced attack to keep control of the game and cruised to the victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Pina led the Bulldogs with 27 points. She also added nine rebounds and six steals. Stephanie Conrad (Bedford, N.H.), starting in the first game of her career, scored 17 points on 6-16 shooting, including 5-14 from three point range. Rudder also excelled, scoring 17 points and adding 21 rebounds.
The Bulldogs return home on Saturday as they host NECC foe Mitchell College at 12:00 p.m.
