Poor shooting (26% from the field) doomed the Bulldogs in a road contest with New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) foe Becker College, as the Cardinal and White fell to the Hawks 73-53 at Leicester Gymnmasium on Thursday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Dean opened the game in a 9-0 hole before storming back with 10 of the next 12 points to cut the lead to 11-10. Two layups from Nicole Romero (Winchendon, Mass.) highlighted the burst. After an Iindia Pina (Carver, Mass.) layup tied the game at 13, the Bulldogs scored four of the last six points, entering the quarter break with a 17-15 lead.
Becker controlled the first half of the second quarter, ripping off a 16-4 run to wrestle control of the game. A triple from Pina closed the gap to four with a minute remaining in the half, and a Becker bucket late gave the hosts a six point advantage (38-32) heading into halftime.
Jamaya Cleveland (Greensboro, Ga.) scored early in the third period to cut the deficit to four, but the Bulldogs would get no closer for the rest of the game. Becker swelled their advantage to 19 with two minutes remaining in the third and the Bulldogs could not overcome the deficit in the fourth quarter, eventually falling 73-53.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Pina led the Bulldogs in both points and rebounds, finishing with 18 points and nine boards. Cleveland scored 10 while Romero added seven points and five rebounds. Dean has dropped four straight and sits at 2-4 in the conference.
