Rudder Named NECC Rookie Of The Week

Marshfield, Mass. – Dean College freshman standout Makayla Rudder (Springfield, Mass.) has been named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's basketball rookie of the week it was announced on Monday by the league office.

Rudder averaged 17.7 points and 10.0 rebounds per game while shooting nearly 50 percent from the field (48.8) in the first three games of her collegiate career.

In a season-opening setback against Smith College, Rudder totaled 19 points, 15 rebounds and five steals.

She then followed that up with 21 points, eight rebounds and three steals as the Bulldogs dropped the opener of the Emerson College Tip-Off Tournament to the host Lions.

Rudder then wrapped up her week with 13 points and seven rebounds in a tough loss to Keuka in the consolation game of the Emerson Tip-Off Tournament.

Through those first three games, she ranks fourth in the league in scoring and fifth in both rebounding and steals (2.7).

Dean returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Mitchell College for a NECC showdown with the Mariners beginning at 6:00 p.m.
