Smith College sharpshooter Lauren Bondi scored 30 points in just three quarters to lead the Pioneers past Dean College, 80-55, in non-league women's basketball action on Thursday evening.
Bondi went 7-for-9 from behind the arc to aid in her offensive outburst – doing it all in just 28 minutes of action.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
After a high-scoring first quarter where Smith held an eight-point advantage, that lead doubled at halftime after holding the Bulldogs to only four points on 2-for-17 shooting in the second period and they went into intermission ahead, 41-25.
Bondi had three triples in the third quarter as the Pioneers continued to build their lead and when they closed the quarter on a 9-0 run, they were in front, 66-40.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Dean connected on only 29 percent of their shots (22-for-75), including a 6-for-27 performance from behind the arc.
Both teams committed 22 turnovers apiece, but the Pioneers shot 18-for-21 from the free throw line and held a 50-41 edge in rebounds.
In addition to Bondi, Kennedy Guest-Pritchett collected a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds, while Katy McClellan ended with 12 points and 12 rebounds herself.
The Bulldogs were paced by the all-around effort of Makayla Rudder (Springfield, Mass.), who poured in 19 points, hauled down 15 rebounds and collected five steals. Iindia Pina (Carver, Mass.) added 14 points, four rebounds, four steals and three assists and Nicole Romero (Winchendon, Mass.) chipped in with eight points and five rebounds.
Dean returns to action on Saturday when they take part in the Emerson College Tip-Off Tournament facing off against the host Lions at 1:00 PM.
