Johnson, Smith Lead Bulldogs To Big Win Over NHTI

Franklin, MASS.- Chelsea Johnson had 24 and Vianah Smith scored 19 off the bench to the lead the Dean College Bulldogs to a big win over NHTI on Saturday at Pieri Gym.  

The Bulldogs got out to a hot start, racing to an 11-0 lead on a pair of 3's and a layup from Johnson, and a triple from Smith.  NHTI stormed back to cut the lead to 5 at the end of 1 (13-8).  

A jumper from Johnson at 2:45 left in the second, gave Dean a 10 point lead at 23-13.  Two free throws from Larry and a pair of lay ins from Smith and Johnson, closed out the half and gave the Bulldogs a 29-18 lead at the break.  

Smith nailed a three pointer to start the second half and Dean ran their lead up to 15 by the end of the third quarter.  The Bulldogs cruised the rest of the way to a 19 point win.

In addition to Johnson and Smith, Larry scored 13 and grabbed 14 rebounds.  Denisha Gardener scored 4 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.

NHTI was led by 16 points and 11 rebounds from Riselly Deoleo.  Shannon Hart and Hayley Jakubens both had 8 points as well.

The win improves Dean's record to 17-10 and drops the Lynx to 20-8.

Dean next travels to Southern Vermont College on Monday at 7:00.  NHTI travels to UMaine Augusta for a 7:30 tip.
