Men's Volleyball Surges Past Eastern Nazarene, 3-2

THE LEAD:
In one of the most entertaining matches of the year thus far, Dean College rallied for a thrilling 3-2 win over Eastern Nazarene in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's volleyball action on Thursday evening.

The win for the Bulldogs is their program-best fifth straight victory and shoots them up to third in the league standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Dean jumped out early and grabbed the opening set with relative ease, 25-16 by hitting .400 in the frame and recording 12 kills.

The Lions responded by taking the second and third sets to move in front 2-1 as they got a combined 28 kills.

With their backs against the wall, Dean forced a fifth set by earning a 25-21 victory. Then in deciding fifth set, the Bulldogs were actually down 10-7 until they rallied, getting kills from Joel Carmona (Lawrence, Mass.), Bobby Tetreault (Mattapoisett, Mass.) and a huge block from Dean Bennett (Bloomfield, N.J.) and Diondre Gomes (Fairhaven, Mass.).

Now with the score tied, Dean surged ahead with on a Lions' attack error and pair of kills from Gomes that set the stage for Carmona's game-sealing kill.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Gomes continued his outstanding play with a match-best 20 kills to go along with 15 digs, while Carmona racked up 14 kills and 14 digs.

Tetreault, meanwhile, totaled five kills, 14 digs and 39 assists.

UP NEXT:
Dean will return to action on Saturday when they hit the road for a 1:00 PM first serve against Elms College in NECC action.
