Franklin, MASS.- The Dean College Bulldogs came up short against Pine Manor College on Thursday, falling in straight sets at Pieri Gym.
The Bulldogs came out of the gates hot, racing to a 3-1 lead. Pine Manor bounced back and took a 14-9 lead before a Dean timeout. The Bulldogs scored the next two points to cut the lead to 3, but the Gators responded and won the set 25-22.
Dean again jumped out to an early lead in the second set, scoring the first two points of the game. Pine Manor tied the game at 2, and then the two teams traded points for the next few possessions. Tied at 10, the Gators ripped off 10 of the next 13 points to take a 20-13 lead before a Bulldog timeout. Dean scored 4 straight points later in the set to cut the lead to 23-20. The run was capped by two kills from Moussa Seck. But it wasn't enough. Pine Manor scored the last two points to take the set 25-20.
The third set was controlled by the Gators. They jumped out to a 7-0 lead and held a 15-3 advantage midway through the set. Dean was able to cut the lead to 22-10, but the Bulldogs could get no closer. Pine Manor prevailed 25-10 to secure the match.
Pine Manor's Josh Williams led the way with 11 kills. Dion Johnson had 7 kills and 5 digs. Edward Cromwell had 2 kills and 20 assists.
The loss drops dean to 2-9 on the year while Pine Manor improves to 5-4
Dean next plays at home on Saturday at 1:00 against Emerson.
