THE LEAD:
The Dean College Bulldogs started the 2019 campaign with a flourish, jumping out to an early lead against visiting Rivier University and coasting to a 2-0 victory at Lippert Field in Franklin, Mass. on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Bulldogs got on the board first when Paulo Correia (Fogo, Cape Verde) split through the the middle and outran a pair of defenders down the right side.  His chip from the right post deflected into the goal for the Bulldogs first marker of the season.

In the 17th minute, Correia sent a through ball up the left side to Reinorf Kusi (Mattpan, Mass.) who beat the keeper with a low shot but hit the outside of the post before trickling wide.

With under a minute remaining in the first half, Raider midfielder Anthony Zucco slid a pretty feed across to Tyler Demaral in the middle of the pitch.  Demaral's one timer looped past Dean goalie Bryce Antoch's (Cranston, R.I.) hands, but richocheted harmlessly off the post.

Four minutes into the second half, the Bulldogs struck again.  Aaron Rivers (Punta Gorda, Fla) corraled a loose ball in the penalty box and tapped a touch pass across to Davonn Smith (Lowell, Mass.), who buried the ball in the back of an open net.

WIth fifteen minutes to play, Rivier threatened on a long run from Fred Kazalski, but Antoch stood tall on the breakaway and turned his effort aside.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Dean outshot the visitors 18 to 8.  The Bulldogs also held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.

Antoch finished with four saves for the Bulldogs, while Rivier keeper Colin Deyarmin registered seven.
