Marshfield, Mass. – Dean College freshman striker Davonn Smith (Lawrence, Mass.) has been named New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's soccer rookie of the week it was announced on Monday by the league office.
Smith had an outstanding week as he scored three goals as the Bulldogs' went 1-1 and nearly knocked off the top team in the conference.
In Wednesday's dramatic 3-2 home win over Framingham State, Smith got Dean on the board with a beautiful header off a fantastic feed from Felipe Campos (Barnstable, Mass.)
Later, with a little more than a minute remaining, Smith scored the game-winning goal as the Bulldogs snapped a seven-game losing streak.
Then, in a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to league rival Newbury on Saturday, Smith found the back of the net again, scoring the match's first goal less than a minute into the second half.
So far this season, Smith leads the team and is tied for second in the NECC in goals scored (6) and is tied for third in the league in points scored (14).
Dean returns to action on Wednesday evening when they travel to Eastern Nazarene for a 7:00 p.m. first touch.
