Dean College controlled possession for large portions of the match and Bulldogs posted a workman-like 3-0 win over Becker College in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's soccer action on Wednesday evening.
The victory for the visiting Cardinal and White sends their record to an impressive 13-1-2 overall and locks them into a three-way tie for first place with Mitchell and Elms all at 5-1 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Dean got on the board in the 16th minute when Felipe Campos (Barnstable, Mass.) sent a pass across the front of the goal mouth and Cristiano Martins (Brockton, Mass.) was able to tap it in for the early 1-0 lead at 15:19.
The Bulldogs' second score was a spectacular one where Santiago Cardona (Revere, Mass.) took control of a loose ball, spun on a defender to get free and then dribbled through three more defenders and beat a sliding Sam Majewski for his fourth goal of the season at 58:40.
Vieira setup the third goal when he sent a long ball up to Nathan Estrela (Falmouth, Mass.) who was tackled at the top of the box and the Cardinal and White were awarded a penalty kick. Campos' initial try was turned aside by Majewski, but the rebound bounced right back to him and he delivered his league-leading 18th strike of the year.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Nathan Silveira (East Providence, R.I.) needed to only make one save to record his seventh shutout of the year and move to 9-0-2 on the year.
Dean held a massive 35-6 edge in shots, including a 12-1 edge in shots on goal.
The Bulldogs are off until Saturday when they wrap up regular season play with a visit to Elms College. A victory in that game would assure the Bulldogs at least a share of the regular season conference crown. First touch in that contest is slated for 11:00 AM.
