West Boylston, Mass. – Junior Charlie Banks (Hanover, Mass.) shot a final round 81 (+9) to lead Dean College to a sixth place finish at the MASCAC Men's Golf Championship on a blustery Sunday afternoon at Wachusett Country Club.
Springfield College, who held a team lead after the first day on Saturday, completed the two-day event and secured the overall team championship with a score of 616. That score was six strokes ahead of second place Westfield State (622), who was followed by Salem State (631) and Elms College (659).
Worcester State (671) was fifth followed by the Bulldogs (684) in sixth, two strokes ahead of Mitchell (686) then Eastern Nazarene and MCLA.
Three different student-athletes – Springfield's Corey Roya and Mike Strong along with Westfield State's J.J. Newcombe - all finished in a tie for first with two day scores of 152. In the end it was Strong who won the three-hole playoff to claim the MASCAC Golfer of the Year award.
For the Bulldogs, meanwhile, in addition to Banks' 20th place finish, sophomore Ethan Lessard (Somers, Conn.) carded a final round 82 to finish in a tie for 29th.
Corey Langevin (Franklin, Mass.) ended the tournament with a Sunday score of 93.
