HOW IT HAPPENED:
The two teams traded barbs for the first ten minutes of the contest, with neither team holding a lead larger than three until the hosts broke through with a run at the midway point of the period and sped to an 18-11 lead. Dean responded with a bucket from Booker followed by a layup and two free throws frrom Russell to cut the lead to 20-19.
The Lions bounced back to regain control, extending their lead to 25-19 with back to back hoops before Dean took control of the game. A layup from Armani Baker (Pawtucket, R.I.) followed by a jumper from Russell and a lay-in and triple from Booker gave Dean a 30-25 lead with a minute remaining. One free throw from Eastern Nazarene before the halftime buzzer resulted in the 30-26 halftime score.
A putback layup from Baker at the 13 minute mark of the second half gave Dean a ten point lead but the Lions continued to battle, cutting the lead down to four two minutes later after connecting on two threes.
Off a turnover, Russell connected on a three pointer, assisted by Sean Odum ( Rowlette, Texas) to extend the Bulldogs lead back to double digits with ten minutes to go in the game. Four minutes later, Russell converted an and-one layup and followed with a jumper to swell the advantage to 14.
Dean stretched its lead to as many as 15 down the stretch and held on for a decisive ten point victory.
