THE LEAD:
Western Connecticut State quarterback David James accounted for five touchdowns and the host Colonials racked up more than 500 yards of total offense on their way to a 41-16 non-conference win over Dean College on a rainy Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
James threw for 278 yards and four touchdowns, including a 60-yard strike to Devon Smith on the game's third play as WCSU jumped out to an early lead.

Dean answered back with a 25-yard Jacob Bisson (Barrington, N.H.) field goal but the Colonials wasted little time getting back into the endzone as James hit Will Daniels for a seven-yard score, making the game 14-3.

WCSU got two more touchdown in the second quarter before Dean finally got one of their own when Errol Breaux (Marietta, Ga.) broke a few tackles on a screen pass and muscled his way into the endzone late in the period.

The Bulldogs then came out of halftime and scored another touchdown, going 70 yards in three plays with 63 of them coming on a powerful catch and run from Julian Burris (Rock Hill, S.C.). Saquan Kelly (Stamford, Conn.) finished off the drive with an eight-yard scoring burst, inching the Bulldogs to within 12 at 28-16.

Any thoughts of a comeback for the Bulldogs were quickly squashed when the Colonials went 83 yards in four plays, capped by a James touchdown toss to Nick Kimball from 25 yards out.

Now in front, 35-16, Western Connecticut State tacked on another score when a blocked punt set them up deep in Dean territory and James sealed the game with a two-yard plunge late in the fourth quarter.

UP NEXT:
The Bulldogs return to the field next Saturday when they host Salve Regina at 12:00 PM.
