Cambridge, Mass. – For the second consecutive season a Dean College defensive standout has been named to the New England Football Writers College Division All-Star Team it was announced late Monday night.
Defensive back Shannon Moxey (Marietta, Ga.) was named to the all-star team after a junior campaign that saw him collect accolades and big plays from start to finish.
Moxey joins former Bulldog star Ricco Aaron '18 who was named the New England Football Writers All-Star Team in 2017.
The team is made up of 31 student-athletes representing 22 Division II and Division III institutions.
Moxey opened the season with ten tackles and an interception in the loss at Curry and throughout the season when momentum changing plays were happening, Moxey seemed to always be in the middle of it for the Bulldogs.
A two-time Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) Defensive Player of the Week, Moxey earned his first award after six tackles, a forced fumble, fumble recovery and an interception in a win over Becker back on September 22.
He then took home the honor again following a five-tackle, two-interception, forced fumble performance in a narrow win over Castleton – a performance that also earned him a spot on the D3football.com Team of the Week.
Moxey then capped his season with a 12-tackle effort that also featured two pass breakups and a key forced fumble in the red zone.
Named a first-team all-conference selection, Moxey finished with 57 tackles, and as the league leader in forced fumbles (3), interceptions (6) and interception return yards (84).
Moxey, and the other members of the 2018 New England Football Writers College Division All-New England team will be honored at the New England Football Writers Captains and Awards Banquet on Thursday, December 6, at Rosaria Restaurant and Function Facility in Saugus, Massachusetts.
