Mansfield, Mass. – Dean College freshman signal caller Terrell Watts (New Haven, Conn.) has been named the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) offensive player of the week it was announced on Monday afternoon by the league office.
Watts earns the honor after another stellar performance under center, going 19-for-27 for 268 yards and three touchdowns as the Bulldogs opened up conference play with a 44-26 triumph over Alfred State on Saturday.
This marks the second time this season that Watts has been honored by the conference. He was named the league's rookie of the week after season-opening 364-yard, four-touchdown performance in a 44-41 loss at Curry.
On Saturday, he completed a career-best 70 percent of his passes, wasn't sacked, didn't throw an interception and added 45 yards rushing.
In the first quarter, he connected with Quintus Reid (New Haven, Conn.) for a 30-yard score, and then early in the second quarter he dropped a perfect pass into the arms of Errol Breaux (Marietta, Ga.) that he was able to grab and run away from his defender for a 61-yard score.
His final touchdown pass came in the fourth quarter when Breaux hauled in another score – this one from 15 yards out.
Watts was exceptional on third down, going 6-for-9 for 139 yards with all three of his touchdown passes.
Through the first five games of his career, Watts is completing 56 percent of his passes for 1,117 yards and 13 touchdowns – the second-most touchdown passes for a freshman quarterback in the country.
Watts and the Bulldogs return to action on Friday night when they visit Husson University in ECFC action. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
