Michael Moreau had three hits and drove in five runs as visiting Curry College topped Dean College, 11-7, in non-league baseball action on Wednesday afternoon. The win for the Colonels is their third in a row and inches their overall record closer to .500 (9-10).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Curry jumped on the scoreboard in the top of the first when Moreau smacked a bases clearing double off of Bulldog starter Alex Belanger (Southbridge, Mass.).
Dean slowly climbed back to even the score when Landon Fish (New Port Richey, Fla.) drove in a run with a single in the first, Matt Callahan (Attleboro, Mass.) delivered another run in the second when he cracked a single to center. Fish then tied the game with his second RBI single to center in the third.
The Colonels answered back with three runs in the fifth, highlighted by Moreau's two-run homerun to right field.
Dean pushed three runs across in the bottom of the sixth as Brian Hadden (Newburyport, Mass.) drew a bases loaded walk, Fish drove in another with a sacrifice fly and then Ben Chajet (Hillsboro Beach, Fla.) drew another bases loaded walk to make the score 8-7.
Curry got some breathing room when Dylan Ketterer recorded a sacrifice fly in the seventh and then put the game away with a two-run double in the top of the ninth.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Justin Cage, Tyler Jenkins and Ketterer all had two hits for the Colonels.
Meanwhile, after managing just three hits in a loss to Amherst on Tuesday, Dean pounded out 12 hits on Wednesday, led by Fish's three hits and three RBI. Cox, Callahan and Travis Dinsdale (Worcester, Mass.) all had two hits for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to be back in action on Thursday when they play host to Pine Manor. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Curry returns to the diamond on Saturday when they visit Western New England for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader.
