Alec Wiley smacked a pair of triples, including a key two-run three-bagger in the seventh inning and Gordon College outlasted Dean College, 12-9, in non-league baseball action on Wednesday evening at Clark University's Granger Field.
The contest, which had almost as many hits (16) as errors (11) was a makeup game from earlier in the week.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Each team scored a single run in the first inning but it was the Fighting Scots that broke free, scoring four runs in the second highlighted by Wiley's first RBI triple of the evening.
Dean scratched a run across in the third to tighten the gap when Will Kulcher (Crown Point, Ind.) scampered home on an error.
Gordon widened their gap as soon as they had the chance as Eric Gauer tripled, scoring two runs.
Down 7-2, the Bulldogs rallied for six runs in the bottom of the fourth without getting a hit in the inning and taking advantage of two Fighting Scots' errors.
The Bulldogs' 8-7 lead didn't last long as Gordon got two unearned runs in the top of the fifth.
After tacking on another run in the sixth, Wiley's two-run triple in the seventh pushed the Fighting Scots' lead to 12-7.
Dean did plate another run in the bottom of the seventh when Landon Fish (New Port Richey, Fla.) scored on a wild pitch.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Dean used six pitchers in the contest with Gio Filippone (Darien, Conn.) taking the loss after allowing four earned runs in 2.1 innings. Despite scoring nine runs, the Bulldogs could only must four hits – two by Kulcher and one each from Dakari Cox (Needham, Mass.) and Brian Hadden (Newburyport, Mass.).
A busy stretch of games continues for the Bulldogs as they travel to play at Springfield College tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
