Landon Fish
(New Port Richey, Fla.) delivered a bases-clearing, three-run double in the bottom of the sixth in the nightcap and Dean College salvaged a split of its New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) twinbill with Newbury College on Sunday at the New England Baseball Complex in Northboro.

The Bulldogs dropped the opener, 5-2 to the Nighthawks before Fish's series saving hit on their way to a 4-2 win.

Game 1: Newbury 5, Dean 2
Newbury hurler Jim McGorry scattered eight hits and struck out seven on the way to his league-leading fourth win in the doubleheader opener.

After the Nighthawks pushed across an unearned run in the first, the Bulldogs answered in the third with back-to-back doubles from Will Kulcher (Crown Point, Ind.) and Jeff Sharnick (Stratford, Conn.).

Newbury wasted little time getting back in front as they scored four runs with the aid of two Dean errors in the bottom of the inning highlighted by a two-run single from Andrew DiRito.

Dean sliced into their deficit with an unearned run in the fifth and they put runners in scoring position in the sixth and the seventh but they could never break through.

Jason Bottone (Derby, Conn.) took the loss for the Bulldogs, going six innings and allowing five hits and five runs (four earned).

Kulcher had three hits in the contest for the Dean, including a pair of doubles to push his league-leading total to nine.

Game 2: Dean 4, Newbury 2
Things were looking bleak for the Bulldogs in the second game after falling behind 2-0 and not getting their first hit until there were two outs in the fourth.

After Bryce Reilly (Dover, N.H.) scored an unearned run in the fourth, Dean began its rally with one out in the sixth.

Brian Hadden (Newburyport, Mass.) reached on an error and advanced to second. Corey Karnila (Raritan, N.J.) walked and stole second, while Hadden moved to third on a wild pitch. Ben Chajet (Hillsboro Beach, Fla.) walked and then Hadden was erased at home following a Vincent Buonaiuto (Danbury, Conn.) fielder's choice.

Now with two outs, Fish cleared the bases with a three-run double to right center.

Gaten Davis (Anchorage, Alaska) came on in relief in the seventh and struck out the first two batters he faced and the got the final out via a groundout to secure his first collegiate save.

Jose Quiroz (Bell Gardens, Calif.) was excellent on the mound for the Bulldogs, allowing just four hits and one earned run in six innings of work to pick up the victory.

Fish, meanwhile, had both of Dean's hits in the nightcap.
