SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine.- The Dean College Bulldogs swept their second doubleheader of the weekend, defeating Southern Maine CC 8-5 and 10-1 on Sunday in South Portland, Maine. The Bulldogs are now 8-12 on the year and winners of 4 straight.
Trailing 5-4 in the top of the sixth, the Bulldogs exploded for 4 runs to take a 8-5 lead. Tristan Spiller ignited the rally with a single that advanced Aldo Ripley and Mitch Leblanc while scoring Timothy Lombardi. Christopher Wood then tripled to right field, clearing the bases to give Dean their decisive advantage.
Wood led the Bulldogs with 2 hits and 3 RBI's. Lombardi and Spiller also had 2 hits, with both adding 1 RBI. Daniel Blazejewski also drove in three runs, on a home run in the third in the inning.
Javier Garmon started the game and went 4.1 innings, allowing 5 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits. He struck out two and walked four. Victor Paiva came on in relief and got his first win of the season, pitching 2.2 innings of no hit ball and striking out two.
Dean lead 5-1 after two innings and added four more runs over the final two stanzas to bury Southern Maine CC in the nightcap.
Mitch Leblanc's single in the first inning scored Wood and John Cerretani and the bulldogs jumped out to a quick lead. In the 2nd, Wood singled home Ripley, Leblanc was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded scoring Spiller and Loombardi drove in Wood with a sac fly.
Dean did the last of its damage on three RBI singles in the 7th inning from Spiller, Wood and Cerretani.
Wood was 4-5 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI's. Cerretani was 2-3 with 2 RBI's and 2 walks. Ripley went 2-4 with 2 runs scored.
Kyle Priest pitched a complete game 2 hitter for his first victory of the year (1-0). He gave up one run, struck out five and walked four.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday when they take on Lesley at Longley Field. First pitch is set for 3:00 PM.
