FRANKLIN,Mass.- The Dean College Bulldogs swept NHTI in a doubleheader on Saturday at Longley Field. The Bulldogs won the first game 11-7 before prevailing in a much tighter nightcap 11-7. The wins improve Dean to 6-12 on the year while the losses drop the visitors to 2-11.
Dean scored 1 run in the first, 5 in the second and 7 in the fourth to completely blow game 1 open. The Bulldogs were led by Chris Wood who went 3-4 with a triple and 3 RBI's. Tim Lombardi also led the way, going 2-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI's. Jon Lawlor got his first win of the season, pitching a complete game shutout while only allowing three hits.
Dean again raced out to a lead in game 2, scoring 5 times in the first and leading 7-3 after four innings. Evan Menzinger's three run double started things out.
This time, NHTI would not go away without a fight. They scored 1 run in the fifth and 3 in the sixth to tie the game at 7. Dean responded with a four run bottom half of the sixth inning and then slammed the door in the top of the seventh. Aldo Ripley and Conor Callery, and Lombardi had RBI's for the Bulldogs as well as Menzinger.
Christian Ponce got the win for Dean to improve to 3-1. He pitched a complete game, giving up 11 hits and 7 runs while striking out two.
Dean next plays a doubleheader tomorrow at Southern Maine CC, starting at 12:00 PM.
