WEST ROXBURY, Mass.- The Dean College Bulldogs came up short in a slugfest against Fisher College on Friday, falling 19-15 at Catholic Memorial High School.
A two run double by Angel Perez Vargas followed by a two run single from Mitchell Lundholm, broke a 15-15 tie in the bottom of the eigth and secured the victory for Fisher.
Fisher jumped out to an early 8-0 lead with three runs in the first and five in the second. In the first, Sam Schroeder doubled to left, scoring two and Joshua Casado drove him home later with a single. Reinaldo Moreta's three run double did the majority of the damage in the second.
Dean got one in the top of the third, but gave it right back in the bottom of the innning. Chris Wood's three run homer in the top of the fourth cut the lead to 9-4, and his grand slam in the fifth brought the Bulldogs within one at 10-9.
Tim Lombardi hit a solo blast in the top of the sixth to knot the game at 10, but Fisher responded with a five run bottom half to regain their grip on the game. Cody Mercier hit a two run double, and Moreta followed a few batters later with a three run blast.
Dean refused to go away. A two run double by Ivan Vazquez and two bases loaded walks, brought the Bulldogs back within one heading to the bottom of the seventh. Fisher went down in order, leading to the eigth.
Dean scored the tying run on a bases loaded hit-by-pitch from Timothy Lombardi but the Bulldogs left the bases loaded, unable to push across any additional runs. Fisher exploded for four in the bottom of the eigth for the desicive margin.
Jason Bottone started the game for Dean, giving up 10 earned runs on 11 hits and striking out four. Raymundo Gomez went four innings for Fisher, giving up 6 earned runs and striking out 8.
Dean is next in action Sunday at Noon at Mass Maritime.
